[ he had half a mind to call ahead of time, but he's too busy running in order to actually make the call, and anyway, what would he say? he and dio had never been good with talking or listening to each other, for one reason or another. which is why he texts him, ]
[He doesn't bother responding to Giorno, knowing whatever he says to him won't stop him from coming. Harvest week has turned everything outside into madness and while he happily profits from that noise, right now he decides to take a small break.
Sitting on the edge of a balcony, arms laced through the railing, he bites down into an apple as he watches the people below enjoying themselves. This was one of the few spots Dio preferred to roost in when he wasn't running through the streets, so he didn't think it would take Giorno too long to find him.]
[ he hopes that dio hasn't been affected so far. or if he has been, that it hasn't really gotten to a stage where it's going to be difficult. the reports he's received about the virus were worrying, and while giorno has no worries about his ability to survive it, he is never as worried as he is when it comes to family. and dio, as willful as he is, is too young.
giorno makes good with his promise of arriving there as early as he can. if dio knew what he was planning, he'd kill him. all the same, he has to try. it won't exactly make him immune, but it should be able to do him good should the infection get to him.
assuming his blood doesn't kill him, first.
he glances at dio's roost. ]
Dio, you are going to fall off of that.
We'll talk inside. Hurry up. [ and he goes inside the building, not waiting for his response. ]
[Dio only shoots Giorno a dirty look before throwing his apple down at the crowd of people without much care if it managed to hit someone. He hopes it does.] Just because you have all the grace of a two legged cat, doesn't mean I do.
[But nevertheless he follows after Giorno as he goes inside, dusting dirt off his pants. Not that it does much good.
Once inside he frowns up at Giorno.]
What has your panties in a twist this time, Giorno? Do you finally have a warrant for me?
Don't joke about that. [ he sticks his hand into his hair and messes his gross blond hair, because he can. because he misses this boy terribly and they're incapable of being decent to each other. there is the warrant and giorno's dedication to it, and then there's his family. the only one he's got left.
this will sting him later. probably. ]
Are you sick? Have you been taking care of yourself? You can't have been blind from everything that's been happening out there. [ he glances around this grimy hovel. ] I'd lock you up here until we're done cleaning up the streets if I know you wouldn't kill me for it.
[He slips away from Giorno's hand with a scowl, running his own hand over the now-messy locks of hair as if its unruliness was all because of Giorno.]
Of course I'm taking care of myself. [He isn't a child - or rather, he isn't like other children who depend on others to survive. He is better than that.] Even if you could keep me locked up the idea that you could clean up anything is laughable.
[He steps past Giorno and goes to sit cross legged on a wooden crate, focusing on his brother with a raised brow.] Something terrible is always happening out here, only now it's starting to affect everyone that isn't street trash.
[ the look on giorno's face can be described as 'fond' if he didn't look so intense about it. as it stands, giorno just stands beside the crate that dio is lounging on, intent on invading his space because they awkwardly crave each other's company like that. he wants to tell him so many things. like how work has been terrible and he's been having awkward conversations that may get him in trouble but it's all good work, it'll pay off in the end, it's all little steps he has to take in order to be stronger. but dio is a street rat like most of the others in this part of town, and they needn't worry about accords when surviving daily is already hard work.
his confidence is charming. he takes care of himself, he says with all the worldly haughtiness of a kid his age. giorno was a lot quieter his age. more subdued. he thinks about the blood vials he's brought with him, sitting uneasily in his pocket.
giorno purses his lips. ]
Do you need anything else? [ an odd thing to ask to a boy who can provide himself anything, but even so .... giorno wants to be useful. wants to feel like he can help him. ]
[Whatever it was Giorno was going through in his day to day life, Dio felt confident that his brother could hold his own. They were similar like that, able to rise against struggle and turmoil and be stronger for it.
He didn't worry about Giorno most days even if he did keep an open ear out for any mention of his name - any talk about a young, blonde RAC agent. He tells himself it didn't matter, that whatever happened would happen without him, but even then it doesn't do much to quell the very softest worries he may never admit to.
He holds his ankles as he leans back some, head tilted off to the side in thought as he shrugs his shoulders.]
[ that's actually the one thing he doesn't have. giorno pats his pockets, checking to see if he can find something he can give to him; he has a few candies, but nothing notable. he gives him two, then tells him, ]
I'll be right back.
[ when he comes back, dio will have enough for a few days: a case of water, dried foods, canned goods, something warm for him at the moment - stew and bread and sweets, of course, because giorno wants him to eat something nice too. there's not much in stock since the streets are in chaos, so the variety of food that he got is limited, but at least he won't have to show his face outside for a while.
he dumps the box to the side, rather pleased with what he's been able to gather for him. ]
[While Giorno was out Dio went back to sitting outside on the roof. The sun was dying past the horizon and the view of the city cast in a warm kaleidoscope of colors was almost peaceful.
He keeps an ear out for Giorno's return and when he hears the sound of the door opening Dio picks himself up again to peek inside. The amount of food brought back makes him pause, wrinkling his nose at some of the boxes.]
[ he does something good for dio and dio immediately thinks there's a calamity. he's not entirely wrong, and anyway he's not sure how to tell him how worried he is, so he settles with something in the middle: ]
I worry about you.
This way you'll have enough to live on for a while, and you won't have to deal with whatever it is that's going on outside.
[ he moves towards dio again, his hand on his forehead, on his neck to check his temperature. when dio squirms away from his touch, giorno just tsks and grabs him back, frowning. ] You're a bit warm.
I know. [But he doesn't know what to do about it or how to handle Giorno's worries. They shouldn't be his responsibility, right?
Instead of saying anything else he finds himself more occupied with trying to squirm away from his brother's hands, ending with a very upset look when he's forced back to being handled.] I've been outside in the sun! Giorno, I feel perfectly fine. [Not that he would say anything if he didn't, but...]
If you keep worrying like this your hair will go gray.
[ dio is so pale that giorno imagines he'd burn quite easily under the sun. why he chooses to sunbathe like a cat is beyond him.
he releases him after a while. ]
You are the only family I have here, and there is a plague outside. As a child, you'll be more prone to contracting diseases. [ he presses his lips to a thin line. ] I don't .... want to be difficult, especially where safety is concerned. There are other things to think about as well.
But. You know how it is. [ he glares at him. ] If I find out you've gotten worse in the next couple of days, I'm locking you in at my place until you are well.
week 3.
I'm coming for you. 30 mins.
[ you better be there. or else. ]
